Dear Roadrunner Families,
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! We look forward to a fabulous year full of learning!
The HUSD goals this year are:
1) College and Career Readiness
2) Reading and Literacy Improvement
3) Student/Parent Engagement.
The following are some ways Ramona is addressing the district goals:
College preparedness starts when children are young. We want to instill in all of our students the belief that they can set goals and attain them by graduating from college. To promote college readiness, each teacher will speak about where they went to college and post the name of their college and degrees in their classroom window. College vocabulary specific to each grade level will be reviewed and discussed on a continual basis. Lastly, each class will “adopt” a college and share information about the college during our Friday Flag (first and third Friday of the month).
Learning Dynamics will be piloted this school year in grades kindergarten and grade 1. A reading program, Learning Dynamics introduces a new letter every other day. Students are given their own books to read and keep. Teachers meet individually with their students.
We are proud to have the 100 Mile Club come to Ramona this year. Each student’s goal is to run 100 miles over the course of the school year. We recognize that not all children have talents in academic areas. Some children taste success through athletics. Each Wednesday morning we will have our “track” set up from 7:15-7:30 for walking or running. Parents may participate as long as they check in first through the front office.
Parent participation is crucial to your child’s success. We urge you to become involved! Join School Site Council or the English Language Acquisition Committee. Volunteer in your child’s classroom. Our PTA has some wonderful Family Academic Nights planned this year in science, math and language arts; bring your child to each one.
We appreciate your support and look forward to working with you.
